SCARF WEAVING KIT INSTRUCTIONS

CLASSIC SCARF KIT by Neal Howard

WARPS: 1) 10 ends, rayon slub = R 2) 60 ends, 4/2 spun silk OR silk bouclé = A 3) 34 ends, 4/2 spun silk OR silk bouclé = B *All warps are 3 yds. long. This includes 36” for waste and fringes and 72” for scarf.

WEFT: Rayon slub, approximately 300 yds.

MINIMUM EQUIPMENT NEEDED: 10” wide rigid heddle loom, 10 dent reed, stick shuttle EPI: 10 PPI: for 4/2 silk, 10. for bouclé, about 12. Do not beat too tightly. The bouclé will draw in more than the 4/2 silk.

THREADING: Warp width is 10” ion the reed. Choose a threading option from the section below - then measure 5” from the center of the reed and sley it according to the number/letter sequence given. The number refers to the number of ends to be threaded/width of stripe. The letter refers to a particular warp. See WARPS description above. The kit warps are labeled A or B with a string tag at the cross. The color diagrams (if displayed) are only to provide a visual idea of the warp stripe patterns and are not 100% accurate. Some sequences may not use all of the warp ends provided.

NOTE: Decide before you start weaving how long you want your fringes to be and allow for this in the process.

FINISHING: Finish fringes as desired. Wash scarf in warm water with gentle soap (I use baby shampoo). Rinse. Roll in towel to remove excess water. DO NOT WRING. Hang to dry. Steam iron on wool setting.
